Today's random set is 8268 Scorpion Attack, released during 1999. It's one of 33 Technic sets produced that year. It contains 85 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$15.
It's owned by 574 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.
Luigi's Mansion is the latest extension of the Super Mario franchise to be included in the LEGO version, with three sets this year. We recently reviewed the smallest, 71397 Luigi's Mansion Lab and Poltergust, which introduced us to Professor E. Gadd and a Gold Ghost.
Next comes 71399 Luigi's Mansion Entryway, which includes a pair of ghosts and a friendly little puppy for Luigi to interact with. I've taken a look at the gameplay below, and what it adds to Luigi's storyline in the game.
After a couple of disappointing GWPs at the start of the year, things are set to improve next week when 40491 Year of the Tiger will be free with purchases exceeding £85/$85/€85 from Monday until the 27th of the month at LEGO.com. That's the same day that the Chinese Traditional Festival sets are launched in the USA.
Additionally, 30562 Monkie Kid's Underwater Journey will be free with Monkie Kid and NINJAGO purchases over £40 during the same period.
The Chinese zodiac animal sets are highly collectable and once I have the tiger it'll be a good excuse to get all the others out again for a group photo. View last year's one after the break.
Thank you to all 1,047 of you that took the time to complete the survey about our reviews. It has provided some valuable feedback.
Your constructive comments have enabled us to come up with an action plan for improvement, although the main conclusion that can be drawn from them is that we won't ever be able to please everyone all the time!
42137 Formula E Porsche 99x Electric is one of two Technic cars with pull-back motors and premium prices that have just been released. We reviewed the other one, 42138 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 last month.
It's the third Technic Porsche and the first electric car from any manufacturer to be recreated as a Technic model.
LEGO store calendars were previously the primary method of learning about future promotions, although their distribution has become inconsistent.
Unfortunately, the complete discontinuation of LEGO store calendars has now been confirmed, apparently in response to changing marketing strategies and the availability of promotional sets becoming less predictable.
Information about promotions will be available on LEGO.com though, hopefully providing notice of approaching promotions which we can publish here.
Last year, LEGO revealed that many European prices would be updated to ensure consistency between different nations across the continent.
These changes were implemented on the 1st of January, resulting in some significant price increases, along with reductions. Fortunately, the pricing data is recorded here on Brickset, so we have prepared a comprehensive list of such adjustments for the UK. We hope to publish similar information for other countries shortly.
We spend a lot of time preparing and writing our set reviews, so we want to make sure that they meet your needs.
We have therefore prepared a short survey to find out which aspects of them are most important to you and also for you to suggest how we could improve them.
You'll find the survey after the break. Your responses will be anonymous unless you choose to enter your Brickset username.
Update: Thank you for your feedback. We've had over 1,000 responses so will now analyse them and make improvements where necessary.
Images of two more BrickHeadz sets for 2022 have surfaced on the Russian pages of LEGO.com overnight: 40549 Demogorgon & Eleven from Stranger Things and 40559 Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote.
30588 Kids' Playground is a fun little polybag that's currently a gift with purchase at LEGO.com when you spend over £40 / $40 / €40 on City sets.
Compared to some of the GWPs that have been offered recently it's not particularly exciting, but the spend threshold to acquire it is low and it contains two unique minifigures, so it's not all bad.
However, the mech seems substantially smaller than its heroic counterpart, which may prove detrimental because their similar designs invite comparison. These colours appear attractive though, while the detail potentially rivals 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech in certain areas. Simply nearing that standard would be excellent.
